Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
I am appealing to get a Credit Standing (CR) in POLS 242 (Winter, 2019). I believe that I could have received a better grade in the course had I known that I could have deferred the exam (April 22nd, 2019) due to sickness.
Around the same time in 2018, I was dealing with a US visa situation that required me to travel from Kingston to Toronto and Montreal continuously during school and my exam period. In short, on the 29th of May, 2017, I was detained at the Vancouver-Seattle border by border patrol and was permanently banned from entering the US; my US visa was deemed void. I had to submit and process a waiver for permission to re-enter the US, but I could not have done so without the help of the lawyers that I have hired from Toronto and Montreal.
On the 18th of April, 2019, I received a letter back from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) declaring that my waiver application has been rejected. I was not expecting the application to get rejected as I had an excellent legal team handling my case. This news left me a little shocked. I have a history of severe sleep deprivation due to depression and feelings of anxiety, which affected me instantly after I received this letter from the USCIS. Due to this lack of sleep, I got very ill from the flu which overcame my body starting from the 19th of April. I tried booking an appointment with La Salle to see a doctor, but they were fully booked. Thankfully, I had a friend who took care of me, and I was convinced that I did not need to see a doctor solely because someone was taking care of me.
I was unable to study for my POLS 242 exam due to this illness. I tried my best to study on the 21st, but my body still needed time to rest. The only time that I got to study was the day of the exam (22nd of April, 2019). I received a 36 on the final exam which is worth 40 of the course.
I kindly ask that the Associate Dean consider my appeal. I am a hard-working individual, and I know that I can get a better grade in this course. I hope to hear from you soon.
