Petition Letter
Hello
For the course 385 I am appealing to drop the course. My QSAS advisor Bonney hunt would be able to better summarize the complicated nature of what occurred between the professor, the TAs and myself. But for the most part the issue was this.
I sent in my accommodations for the course as requested. I followed up asking for my accommodations to be fulfilled and I got a response from the professor saying that I had to send the letter as they did not have it, to which I sent it via email. And then after I did not get a response to that email, which the professor told me to send him, I sent another email, a follow up email, to which he also did not respond. After that I did quite poorly in the course and I tried to talk to him to see If I could do extra credit or try and do an incomplete and finish off some of the missed quizzes that I needed to pass the course. He was very slow at responding, even though I told him the urgency of the situation, and that there was a lot of moving parts, such as I needed to know if I had a passing grade even if I did well on the exam, to which he said he would get back to me on, and he never did. I was having personal issues throughout the term, that I discussed with my advisor and that led us to adding a extension on assignments to my letter of accommodation to help me pass the course. I tried to discuss this and the complexity of the situation to the professor (that being If I wrote the exam and got 100 and I wasn¿¿t able to complete the quizzes I missed, I probably would not be able to pass the course.) the professor was extremely slow at dealing with the issue and every email I would send he would responses 2 or more days later (until I started copying the undergrad chair for Politics) and each email would only answer one of the questions I asked, so then I had to email backing asking him to answer the questions I asked in the previous email, making the whole situation go on for a while.
After he said I was being very unprofessional in that i was making claims that I shouldn¿¿t of being making, and that I never sent my letter in, until ¿¿April 3rd¿ according to him. To which I did not like being targeted and being called a liar so I showed him the proof of our 1v1 conversations stating that I did not receive the accommodations I needed to pass the course and to which led me to do poorly in the course.
I was trying to do an incomplete on course and finish the assignments (which they could of opened, they just said they wouldn't¿t) and write the exam in September as I deferred the exam, due to the fact that I knew I probably couldn¿¿t pass the course even if I got 100 on that exam, and I was trying to get in contact with him before the exam to solve this before writing it, but as I said earlier he only started responding once I starting copying the undergraduate chair of Politics in the department (Which I personally think is a bit unprofessional, because it seems like he only cared to look at the situation, once superiors were involved, which should not be the way it should of been conducted)
I want to complete the course, but he seems to be very adamant about not letting me. So after discussion with my QSAS and Academic advisor I am appealing to drop the course, and I will take a summer course that is a substitute for 385 in order to get my degree
