Petition Letter
To Whomever it may concern,
My name is Diana Zalewski and I just recently completed my third year at Queens. I decided to file an appeal for PHIL 376 that I took this past semester.
The course was instructed by Professor Maxwell, and I thoroughly enjoyed completing the work for the class. Each assignment allowed me to demonstrate my knowledge of the various topics and ideas that were presented throughout the semester.
Although I very much enjoyed the course, a dislike I personally had was the inability to submit assignments online. I believe that students should be encouraged to use this option as technology has managed to simplify the process of project submission. This course required students to print off all work and submit in person. Once recognizing this I felt wary as I knew it would be very difficult to keep track of all paper submissions from various students.
I submitted my final paper (hard copy) via Dropbox on the date of submission and to my knowledge, I believed that everything went accordingly. But unfortunately, I did not receive a grade for this paper due to it not being submitted.
Professor Jacqueline Maxwell, came into contact with me asking if I submitted the paper for the class and by the time I reached back to her (May 3rd) the grades had already been submitted (May 1st). Due to the lack of not checking my email avidly, I did not see this notice as quickly as I should have. If I responded sooner my assignment would have been accepted. I take full ownership and responsibility for this mistake. But I did submit the assignment and I'm assuming it may have gotten lost in the dropbox shuffle or I may have unintentionally submitted the assignment to the incorrect area. Due to receiving a grade of 0, my final for the class is not as great as I would like it to be.
Since I did submit the assignment on time when I was supposed to, I am very much hoping that this request will allow for my paper to be remarked. I worked tremendously hard and I would not want a slip and communication error to get in the way of that. I very much enjoyed the class and I believe that professor Maxwell did a tremendous job designing the course. But I am very much hoping something may be done to accommodate for my ungraded paper. Please let me know if you have any questions and thank you so much for taking the time to read through my request.
