Please accept this academic plan as my supporting documentation for my appeal to Queen¿¿s University¿¿s decision in asking me to withdraw from the faculty or Arts and Science for three years.
I am writing this academic plan as supporting documentation along with my appeal to the faculty of Arts and Science at Queen¿¿s University.
This academic year has been an exceptional improvement from my first year. In September I started with a light course load only taking three courses and my grades significantly improved. During this time, I had a structured routine and I was able to be organized and use efficient time management in order to write and finish my assignments on time. I had accommodations in place which were incredibly helpful. I was able to record lectures with my recording pen and ask for extensions on assignments when needed. I wrote my exams in separate rooms with extra time as required.
In the second semester, I enrolled in Spanish 111. I took this course because I wanted to make sure I would have the language credit necessary to major in Global Development Studies. I, however, was unaware of the fact that to major in Global Development Studies I needed a 2.9 GPA or a 1.9 for the pending list. In retrospect, I should have kept my course load at three courses and not have added the fourth course.
If I am able to continue my studies next semester, I will only take courses which would be suited to my learning abilities and create expectational work in. I will always keep on top of my grades and my assignments. I will take advantage of my TA¿¿s and professors to ask for clarity on anything I have trouble comprehending and understanding.
I am going to incorporate the following plan in order to achieve a successful academic year and increase my GPA to an acceptable level.
¿¿ Continue to use my academic accommodations offered for my learning disorder i.e. use of recording pen to record lectures, extra time for exams
¿¿ Continue to take a reduced course load each semester
¿¿ Work closely with Learning Strategists at SASS using the resources they offer me such as exam study tips and the writing center
¿¿ Use the Career Counselor Services to help me with my degree plan
¿¿ Employ Tutoring Support Services to help me deal with the weaknesses I have in my studies
¿¿ Meet with my professors and TA¿¿s regularly to go over the material in lectures and tutorials I had trouble understanding
¿¿ Create a detailed schedule on how I will structure my day with classes and studying
¿¿ Continue to sit in the first row in of the lecture hall to be close to the board and professor
¿¿ Enroll in courses that are better suited to my academic strengths
Sincerely,
Emily Romano
