Academic Plan
One week before I received the e-mail stating I must withdrawal from academics for a year, I have been seeing a counsellor once or twice a week to help find the source of my depression, anxiety, and procrastination. Over the 4 weeks I¿¿ve seen her, I¿¿ve felt better about myself and more understanding about why these habits are present and how I can break them. We have talked about my procrastination, anxiety, and every aspect of why I have been acting in such a way. I¿¿m continuing counseling for the rest of this summer, as well as finding a new counsellour in Kingston during this upcoming Fall term. I am also scheduled to see a physician on June 19th about my mental health, and before the Winter 2019 exam season, I saw a academic advisor about my situation.
I am already taking steps to combat my habits and mental health issues and motivation outside of counseling. Since this May, I have moved into a new apartment that is closer to campus, with new housemates who are more academically involved, organized, and helpful than my previous housemates. I believe in this new household, I will have less incentive to procrastinate and get motivation for academics again, since my other housemates have a helping eye on myself. I have also set up a lot of ¿¿smart home¿ applications in my new apartment to keep me on track, such as a coffee maker that starts with my alarm and a calendar that¿¿s integrated with my home system. I have also been vigilantly keeping up with healthier eating choices, drinking coffee, a daily running routine to fight anxiety as well as for fitness, waking up and going to bed early, and taking multi-vitamins every day. The combination of these new life choices has already shown major improvement day to day, and I intend to keep my routine not only during my upcoming semesters, whether they are this year or the next, but outside of academics as well. I am also not going to take up a part-time job on top of a full-time amount of academic work. I will also consider whether the classes I¿¿m taking are right for myself. If I do stay with the class direction I was before, I intend to retake all my Fall 2018 and Winter 2019 Classes I took. I believe with all of these steps, the chances of academic success are much higher that this previous year.
My final step, which goes without saying, is an extreme strictness towards academic achievement. I¿¿m not pleased with the way my past self treated time management, schoolwork and class. However, I know my future self can change through the present, where I¿¿m doing all I can now to become the best version of myself.
