Petition Letter

Dear Associate Dean, Faculty of Arts and Science,
I am appealing to drop SPAN111 for the winter term of 2019 due to extenuating circumstances. This Spanish course was the only second semester course that I started in January.
During January and February, I was dealing with complications with my roommate as she had accused me of being intimate with her boyfriend. Before informing me, she decided to tell my significant other (at the time) and my friends, which resulted in a lot of emotional stress for me, as the accusation was false. This was eventually confirmed by her boyfriend.
My roommate and I had not been getting along since November, but the months of January and February were extremely difficult. The situation got to such an extent that I decided to move out of my Gordon-Brockington room and looked for a new residence entirely. During these months, all my courses were negatively impacted. I had trouble with my other courses but as they were full year courses I had a base underneath me. I moved to Victoria Hall on March 4th. I believe this helped me obtain passing grades through the second semester, but below expectations.
Unfortunately, I found it difficult to learn everything I needed too, and Spanish became the course that suffered the most. I missed the deadline to drop the course. I tried very hard to catch up and talked to my professor to see what we could do, but the final result was a fail. If I do qualify for an appeal, I will be back on schedule with my academics by taking an extra course. It will also help me to raise my grade point average, allowing me to enter Art History as a major, which I currently cannot do. I thank you for your consideration of this matter and sincerely hope I can be granted an appeal to drop SPAN111.

Dear Associate Dean, Faculty of Arts and Science,
I am writing this letter to support my daughter Kathleen Tawaststjerna¿¿s request for an appeal to drop her Spanish course for the winter term of 2019. She had a very disturbing and unusual January and February at Queen¿¿s University. As a parent, I supported her by helping her solve a very difficult situation with her roommate. Several times during the winter term she came home unexpectedly on weekends at the expense of her studies.
We resolved the situation of her residences and supported her as she tried to reset her academics. I hope that Queen¿¿s University can accept her appeal so that she can get back on track for a successful second year at University. Although difficult, she has learned some positive characteristics out of this very stressful situation. If you have any more questions, please don¿¿t hesitate to contact me.
