Petition Letter
To the Associate Dean (Studies),
I am kindly requesting an appeal to late drop DEVS 392-001 (Winter 2019) and DEVS 392-002 (Winter 2019).
The following is a summary of my extenuating circumstances, the events of the winter semester of 2019 had been a buildup of great stress and tension in various facets of my life. The impact of my mental illness reached a point of severity that could not be cared for by myself alone. Academically, I could not keep up with the fast-structured pace of classes once the semester was ending, in response, I booked an appointment with Occupational Therapist Tess Grant and was granted Academic Consideration. While I dedicated my time and efforts to complete my semester, I had fallen short of achieving my academic goals. I have managed to just pass INDG 301 while failing to complete DEVS 392-001, DEVS 392-002 and DEVS 300. I have not requested to appeal DEVS 300 as the course can be retaken and I have enrolled to do so in the 2019-20 academic year, DEVS 392-001 and DEVS 392-002, however, cannot be retaken. I did not drop the course by the week eight deadline because at that time I was under the impression that I could persevere through my mental illness and complete the semester. Since being under the medical care of Dr. Lindsay Ritsma improvements have been made to my mental condition. I have met with academic advisors and have decidedly taken a reduced course load this coming academic year.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Wyatt Julien
