Petition Letter
I am writing an appeal to drop a course after the deadline for the term based off of a recommendation made by an academic consideration councilor and an academic advisor. I have been diagnosed with a bad concussion for approximately 3 weeks now and am still experiencing the symptoms from my condition everyday. Because of this, I have requested and received academic consideration for extenuating circumstances between 4 days and 3 months. I hit my head October 8th and left school 1 weeks later because my symptoms were getting too serious to continue my studies. After 2 1/2 weeks of rest at home, I have returned to Queens and am allowed to gradually increase my workload, as said by my doctor. However, I am still experiencing intense and continuous headaches, sensitivity to light, exhaustion, and lack of focus due to my concussion and have been warned by my doctors to not fully resume my studies too quickly. With that being said, I believe it is in my best interest to drop one of my courses (PHIL157) to allow myself some extra time to catch up in my other classes and keep up with new material in time for exams.
