Petition Letter
Associate Dean (Studies):
My name is Katryna Mracic and I am currently a second-year student at Queen's. I am writing this letter to request the late drop of my five (5) Fall 2019 courses, as I can no longer complete the first semester of my second year of studies due to health issues.
I began dealing with mental health struggles in October 2018 which is noted in my previous appeal for PSYC100. I was diagnosed with depression in February 2019 and I began with a prescription medication regime at that time.
I was seeing a counsellor at home before the start of the Fall 2019 semester. My psychologist (counsellor) and I agreed that with the assistance of counselling and coping strategies at Queen's, that I should go back and continue with my University studies. I returned to Queen's in September 2019, commenced classes and began counselling with QSAS, with the belief that I could complete second year.
I started to see Allison LaVigne (Personal Counsellor, Faculty of Arts and Science) weekly to discuss my day to day struggles with depression and anxiety. We discussed methods to help with my mental health, specific routines and solutions for coping, etc. I made all efforts to continue with my studies, while seeking help from Allison and via weekly group sessions (Learning to Deal with Stress and Anxiety).
After continued discussions with Allison, we (Allison and I) determined that it would be best for my health to not continue with my studies and take a pause to seek further treatment for my health issues at home.
With the above in mind, I request the commencement of a formal appeal in effort to officially drop my five (5) Fall 2019 courses; GNDS215, FILM217, FILM206, FILM240 and HLTH200. In support of my request, Allison LaVigne has written a letter that is included in my appeal request submission.
Kindly advise as to the process and any other documentation that may be required in support of my appeal request.
Thank you.
