Academic Appeal
To whom it may concern,
(The Request) I am hereby writing this letter for an appealing to drop ENGL 237 (Fall, 2019) taught by Prof. Lin Young at Queen¿¿s University.
(Explanation of Extenuating Circumstances) Prior to the academic school year, I was and still am in the process of ongoing mental health help and improvement. I began seeing a professional healthcare provider in April of 2019. Needless to say there was some evident progress. However, early in October of 2019, I received some aggravating news about my father being diagnosed with prostate cancer and have been struggling to cope as well as to be there for my family. I began falling behind in readings and getting assignments in on time. Again, I have been pursuing reasonable and professional counseling and help in order to focus on school, however, my ability to keep up with this particular course has been rather difficult.
My decline in mental health began once again right after receiving the news in early October. At this point, my attendance for lectures and scheduled readings became more of a challenge. My coursework throughout September was well kept and clean, exactly the way I was hoping to continue with. However, my essays and even minor assignments, including in other classes, later in the semester were directly and negatively affected. I have gained increased anxiety and, as a result, a higher dosage in medication in order to cope, but it is difficult to know how well I would have done in this course if I were to continue.
(Future plan) I want to make it very coherent that my perseverance is strong and do not have any desire in withdrawing from any courses or schooling entirely in order to focus solely on my mental health and family as getting my degree is extremely important to me all the same. Thus, I plan to retake ENGL 237 before applying for graduation within the next 2 years. I also plan to make travelling appointments to see my family as well as my doctor in order to receive the help I need and to support my family. I believe time is what I need most at this point, and so the time I may receive from whom it may concern will be well worth it and appreciated in my healing.
