Petition Letter
Mid-way through this term (Fall 2019) I received a 12-week break from school as a result of serious mental health issues and complications, this was approved by the Faculty of Arts and Science and I received supporting documentation from a personal counsellor at Student Wellness Services. As a result of this, I had until after my last exam in December 2019 (which was scheduled for December 17) to abstain from any work towards any of these three classes. December 15 2019 I started feeling symptoms such as major headaches, fatigue and dizziness which seemed to be coming from my right eye. On December 20 2019 I went to an emergency clinic as these symptoms were getting worse along with the addition of blurred vision as well as swelling and blisters around my eye. I was diagnosed with Ocular Shingles and was put on medication right away, I also suffer from cellulitis which caused the swelling and pressure on my eye to become more intense and get worse faster. Luckily the swelling started to clear up by December 25 (yesterday) however the headaches, fatigue, blurred vision and pain have not subsided, and according to the doctor may last for up to a month. As a result I have been unable to communicate with professors, look at screens, concentrate on work, or be awake for more than a few hours at a time for over a week. Because of this I don't think I will be able to complete the three courses (PSYC 452, LING 330, FREN 107) as I am still in a lot of pain and don't think I am allowed to receive further extensions to be able to complete the coursework when all of my symptoms have cleared up. I have a doctors appointment scheduled for the end of January (the first availability Student Wellness Services had) during which I will get proof/documentation of the illness necessary to complete my appeal.
