Petition Letter
I am asking or a Credit Standing (CR) appeal in CHEE 884- Bioremediation from Winter 2019. The professors for this course were aware that I was required to attend court proceedings and trial with my ex boyfriend who pleaded guilty to multiple charges (i.e assault, assault causing bodily harm, and criminal harassment.)
I initially received at C+ (approximately 67.5), and required a B- (70) to pass. I had passed 80 of the course with over 80 (i.e. all of the assignments). The final examinations for the course were in take-home form. I failed the take-home exams. I had never had a take-home, and have ADHD. No academic accommodations were provided due to the 24 hour take-home style, it makes arrangements of those accommodations logistically impossible.
I have throughout this whole process acquired counselling services, and there is documentation with Student Health Services of me reaching out and receiving that support.
I approached the professors and asked that these circumstances be into consideration since I was given a final grade less than 3 below the pass.
They expressed little sympathy, and offered me to re-write the final exam (which had initially been a 24 hour take-home). They gave me an exam that contained more questions then the take home and I had 2.5 hours in class to write it. When I expressed my concerns about the re-write layout, they then gave me another 24 hour take home in the same manner, however provided me the same final grade as the 2.5hr exam. This led to me believe that it was not marked since this was done over the summer and the professor was away in China during the re-write and during the marking.
These domestic issues have led to extenuating physiological and psychological challenges (I have been diagnosed with PTSD on top of my ADHD.)
