Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
Sorry for bothering you, I am a forth-year student from arts and science, my major is Psychology and my minor is Economics. My name is Xinyu Gao and my student number is 20014124, I am appealing to drop PSYC333 (winter, 2020). I just got my grade for midterm of this course yesterday, it is a F and the weighting of this midterm is high, more than 20 percent, I suppose to drop the course but I have seen that the deadline of dropping classes is Feb.28th.
I have been in trouble with my stomach illness for more than a month. I first went to clinic on Jan.14th, because my stomach have been painful badly for several days, the doctor gave me some medicines but it did not work, so I went to the same clinic a week later, then the doctor booked a C-Urea Carbon Dioxide Breath Test for me, but the day of the test is March.19th. I could not receive efficient treatment before results of the test produced. I have taken another kind of medicine for two weeks, but sometimes my stomach still aches seriously, I could not focus on study when my stomachache occurs. When my stomach begins to ache, I will feel dizzy, feel like vomiting. Sour regurgitation, heart burn and diarrhoea also happens. My stomach will ache so severe that I even could not stand. I can only lie on bed when it begins to ache. The chest pain cause by sour regurgitation is also severe, and I also have sore throat at the same time. When I was taking the midterm of PSYC333, I was having stomachache. On the day before the midterm of PSYC333, there is another midterm for another psychology course, I spent majority of my time to review that course, after finishing the midterm of that course, I tried to review PSYC333, but my stomachache occurs at that time, maybe because I stayed up all night to study for exams, I only slept four hours in two days. At that time my stomachache was so severe that I could not focus on study or writing exams.
After that, the symptoms of my stomachache sometimes became better, sometimes became worse, repeated for several times. Since my grade of midterm is F and the weighting of it is really high, I do not think I can save my final grade of this course from final exam.
If I could drop PSYC333, I may choose to retake it next fall semester, since I have already delayed graduation for a semester. I may choose another course to replace it, as well.
Sincerely,
Xinyu Gao
