Petition Letter
I am seeking an academic appeal to late drop the following classes: ¿¿GNDS 120 (Winter, 2019), PSYC 100 ( Fall, 2018 and Winter, 2019), CLST 103 (Winter, 2019), PHIL 257 A&B (Fall, 2018 and Winter, 2019). I am also requesting to waive the deadline for this appeal. The reason I was unable to meet the required deadline are the same reasons I am applying to late drop. All of the classes listed above are classes that I started in the fall of 2018. Very soon into the academic year, my grandmother passed away (September 24th). I had to fly home to her home in South America and was away for about 3 weeks. Due to religious purposes, her wake was about a week and her funeral, a proceeding of 9 days. I missed many classes and I was unable to keep up. I took the passing of my grandmother very hard. As I have had a history of depression in which I have sought counselling for since the beginning of 2017. In the beginning of 2019, I sought medical help from the Student Wellness Services and was prescribed antidepressants which seemed to limit my mental ability and coping more than it helped it. With a relapse of depression and an inability to cope with my loss, I had stopped attending classes all together and I was unable to focus on my academics.
