Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean (STUDIES),
I am appealing for a Credit Standing in ANAT 100 (Fall 2019). I am also appealing to drop PHGY 215 (Fall 2019), PSYC 221(Fall 2019) and PSYC 236 (Fall 2019).
The period between September 15 to December 30, 2019, were the most challenging times ever concerning my academic work, as I juggled between full-time online studies and caring for two babies under two years. The fall semester of 2019 saw my return to academic studies after having taken a one-year maternity leave to cater for my kids. My mom, who came over from Ghana to help with the little ones, had to return home earlier done planned, due to other personal reasons.
I was left emotionally traumatized while still struggling to study online. I was so overwhelmed with the whole situation that I could not even think straight to reach out for help earlier. I convinced myself that I could still pass the courses if I were to pull myself together, that is why I did not drop the courses by the Drop Deadline. But the situation did not get any better after the Drop Deadline.
Due to this and many other personal reasons, I ended up performing poorly in all my exams, for which I cried myself to bed on numerous occasions. I was disappointed in myself that I could not muster the courage to inform my family because they believe so much in me, based on my previous academic achievements.
At some point, I realized keeping the whole situation to myself was not doing me any good so, I reached out to my spouse first before finally informing my parents. They have all been providing me with emotional support and advice thus far. My husband has also taken up more responsibility at home to help me gain adequate time to study.
I propose to retake the psychology courses as they are required for my degree plan. I also intend to find an interesting elective for the remaining course, if my appeal is granted. I would only have three more courses to retake to graduate, and I plan to give it my all, to make myself, and family proud. I hope to be among the deans honour list when I graduate, which will be possible if my appeal is granted.
