Petition Letter
The type of appeal I would like to make is in regards to a course that I had dropped during the fall 2019 term and was confirmed to me over the phone by a staff member, but afterwards I had found out this was not the case. As per the instructions of Academic Advisor & Appeals Coordinator Spring Forsberg-Lewis I have attached an email conversation that I explained to a different staff member surrounding the cirsumstances of what occurred.
:To be quite honest with you I did have a lot of family and personal problems going on during the time I registered for my summer 2019 course and because of that I wasn't able to give my full focus in completing the course and I had thought that the course would run for 3 months and not 1 month (thinking I would have time to get caught up). But because this was a mistake on my part I take full responsibility for not completing the course successfully. However, when the time came around for me to take on the course that ran during Fall 2019 I realised early on that because of my ongoing family/personal issues were not necessarily resolved I thought it would be best for me to drop out of the course and take it when I was in a better place and when I could give my full 100 focus. In addition, I also wanted to avoid facing the same mistakes from my summer course. So I thought it would be best for me to drop the course and take it at a later date and I made sure to do so before the academic and financial penalty deadline. After waiting a few days I called the department to make sure everything had gone through as I had not recieved an email stating that I had successfully dropped the course. When I had called in I spoke with a lady that was able to confirm to me that on her side of things that it indeed did show I had successfully dropped the course and I would recieve my refund back shortly. After a while I kept logging in online to check if the refund had been credited back into my account and just to further confirm something in writing that the course had been dropped, yet still nothing was showing up. But because a member of the faculty had confirmed that I was no longer registered in the course I wasn't too worried. When the time was nearing in order to apply into a new course for the winter semester I decided to call the school again and find out why I still hadn't received my refund as I wanted to use that refund money to pay for the next course I wanted to apply into. To make this short, after being put through to several different departments I finally was told that what I had originally been told was not correct and that I was still registered in the course. I explained to the lady the story and that I was very shocked about this as I had previously had confirmed quite the opposite of what I was being told now. She explained that she understood the circumstance, but it was out of her hands and that my best option was to file an appeal to have this sorted out. However, when I gathered all the information of filing an appeal I realize that my chances of the appeal going in my favor are very slim as the documents and evidence that would be required when submitting an appeal I currently have no proof because the only proof that would confirm what I was told would be a recording of the conversation (between the faculty member that confirmed my dropping of the course and I) and I truly didn't think I would be in this situation, so I don't have the phone call recorded. At this point I truly don't know what to do, I am finally in a position that I can put my full focus into my schooling and having struggled, but overcome a lot of hardships I would hate to not be able to move on with my life and get the education I most desired. I truly hope you can help me out with re-registering into this program and would very much appreciate your help. I look forward to hearing from you
