Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
I am Vaishnavie Sivanantham, a Biochemistry student going into my 4Th year. I am writing this to appeal for a late drop of CISC 101.
During the time I was enrolled in CISC 101, I was going through a medical circumstance, specifically a mental disability. I do nott feel that my result in this course was an accurate reflection of my academic performance. My circumstance made it difficult to complete assignments and keep up with lectures. It worsened due to quarantine as I had to adapt to a new study environment, handle my parents medical emergencies and simultaneously maintain my own health. In addition, I was in the progress of a medication change which greatly affected my functioning and academic performance. I tried to utilize my accommodations and connect with my professor to make the best of my situation. However, despite my best efforts, was not able to complete the course successfully. When I was at a breaking point with my circumstance I reached the decision to drop the course, but unfortunately it was past the drop deadline.
From past experience, working on a health plan resulted in a positive outcome so I am confident that I will continue to make such progress. During my first semester of 3rd year, my health plan provided the appropriate approach to my academics which helped my performance. My future plan moving forwards involves maintaining my connections with my QSAS Advisor (Meg Hall), my OT (Tess Grant), my Councillor (Meghan Stouffer Leuprecht), my specialist in Toronto and my therapist. I intend to work with them to plan a structure to best fit new school format such as implementing a reduced course load. Thus, I believe that CISC 101 did not reflect my academic abilities given my circumstances during summer.I hope you take my situation into consideration when making your decision. Thank you for your time.
Kind regards,
Vaishnavie Sivanantham
