Petition Letter
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing this letter to ask that my first attempt at MATH 121 in Winter 2019 be removed from my transcript.
When I came to Queen¿¿s in the fall of 2018 I began to fall ill frequently. This was not completely new to me as it had also been happening during high school but at Queen¿¿s it happened more frequently and without my family here to support me it was a difficult time. I wasn¿¿t sleeping well due to the expected noise levels in residence and I wasn¿¿t eating a healthy diet due to the standard offerings that are part of a meal plan. All of this was causing me to be ill much more often than ever and this impacted my academic performance.
Math has always been a strong subject for me and in high school I consistently earned grades in the mid 90¿¿s but at Queen¿¿s my math mark suffered as I lacked the energy to keep up with the work. My illness exhausted me and arthritis caused me so much pain I was often unable to walk or write and type.
I visited student wellness and they basically told me that I was fine and to go home. This caused me great stress and mental anguish.
Then recently, I was diagnosed with lupus and after all these years it all makes complete sense to me as the symptoms I have been suffering through all these years line up with having lupus.
I did retake MATH 121 in the summer of 2019 and earned a B which is more certainly more in line with my past performance in math.
I am asking for the first attempt to be removed because it is impeding my ability to secure a research position in the summer as someone could look at that original mark and it could raise flags as to my academic ability. I need to be able to work during the summer as I will be starting medical school this September and the money I could earn would help towards tuition and living expenses.
I hope that you will take all of this under consideration and remove the mark. I am certainly available to discuss this further should you have any questions. I also have a form confirming my diagnosis that I would be more than happy to present.
