Petition Letter
My name is Melissa Cussion and I was a non-degree LOP student taking MATH121 in the Summer 2020 session for the purpose of transferring this credit to my home institution of U of T. As per U of T requirements, I have to complete the course with a minimum 60 (C-) to transfer the credit. I finished MATH121 with a D+ and thus short of the requirement to transfer the credit. I had wanted to appeal the mark and review my final exam to attempt to meet that minimum 60 (C-) so I could transfer the credit. I had contacted the Academic Appeals Department regarding this matter, and they told me to reach out specifically to the instructor. I sent an email to the instructor's provided email well within the 21 day limit for appeals and I was never responded to. I followed up with the Academic Appeals Department and was told I could no longer appeal because I was not within the deadline.
I did everything that I was told to do for the proper appeals process and I am being penalized for not getting any response from the instructor. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and everything being moved remotely, getting a timely response now regarding academic matters is not always possible and this is what has clearly happened in my situation.
I am requesting an extension to this 21 day limit for the appeals process for my mark in MATH121 as every effort possible was made on my end to attempt this appeal and I was not responded to, yet I am now being penalized for it.
Thank you,
Melissa Cussion
