Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing in hopes that I will be able to drop my FREN230 course after the deadline for course dropping. Within the last 2 months I have experienced quite an array of tragic events. In the beginning of October my room was set on fire causing damages that left me without a place to study and sleep for 2 weeks. I work part time to support myself through my academic career and was working close to 30 hours a week in order to restore the damages that were caused to my room. Trying to rebuild my room while working this many hours and keeping up with all five of my classes was really taking a toll on my mental health and my general well-being. Just as I felt as though I was was starting to catch up on all the school work I missed, in the last week of October my grandma had passed away. This news along with the tragedy of the fire at the beginning of the year left me emotionally exhausted. By the time I had recovered from the shocking news The deadline for dropping courses had passed. Because of this I attempted to power through and catch up on all my courses in hopes I wouldn't have to drop any of them. Over the last week I have realized that despite my best attempts to keep up with all my courses I was unable to complete very valuable assignments and readings that I needed in order successfully complete the FREN 230 course. By putting FREN230 on the back burner I was able to catch up on all 4 of my other courses but will not be able to complete FREN230 with a passing grade. I continue to work at my part-time job as I do my studies so I can support my living in Kingston. The added stress of school being online this year and everything I have been through I found that this course in particular was draining me and adding even more stress as I am so behind in it. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and I hope you are able to alleviate me of the anxiety this course and dropping this course has been causing over the last 2 months.
Sincerely,
