Petition Letter
I am applying for an academic appeal in the hopes that I will be permitted to complete my BAH in Sociology at home in Vancouver at the University of British Columbia or through online correspondence. As a third year student, satisfying the requirements of my degree would necessarily include the completion of two fourth year seminar courses in Sociology as well as the completion of two elective courses. I am appealing these courses due to the fact that I require medical and familial support in order to cope with ongoing issues of depression and anxiety, which have greatly interfered with my ability to participate in courses and properly complete assignments.
Issues of anxiety and depression have directly affected my ability to regularly attend classes, and engage verbally in tutorials and seminars, while it is generally difficult to cope with high levels of stress and large workloads. Anxiety has always posed a considerable challenge to completing final exams; however recently escalating anxiety has had a detrimental effect on my ability to complete examinations, as uncontrollable hand tremors have interfered with my writing skills.
