Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
I hope you are well I want to remove the F marks from my transcriptions for winter term 2020. I was emotionally impacted by the situation of my fall term in 2020, which was mentioned in the last appeal letter. As an international student, I could not return home during the COVID-19 pandemic and stayed with strangers in a closed environment.
I had moved alone to Kingston in Dec. 2020. I had no peers around me-- even the friends I knew from the past were either in Toronto or far in China. I kept feeling that I had no motivation and was full of stress. Although I tried to ignore my feelings and just did the school work, it all ended up with more fear and anxiety. For a long time since Jan. 2021, I could not fall asleep at a particular time. I felt unsafe when I turn off my light and always fear someone wanted to kill me. I also had no appetite to eat because it reminded me I'm alone all the time. So my schedule was messed up by that, and I could not keep up with the courses. At that time, the only thing I thought was to talk with my parents, but I was also afraid to let them being worry about me. I struggled with it for a long time until I failed almost all my courses and finally realized that things could get even worse if I still do not let them know about this.
Since then, it was already the end of the winter semester, I have sought help from people I know around me as much as possible, but they were just the people I knew. I was afraid to meet new people, so do my counsellor, whom I decided to meet later in July 2021. Then I tried to take the summer term, met my counsellor and talked to Vanessa(my academic advisor). At this point, I know I need to face the problem to get rid of the bad situations.
Thank you very much for your understanding and help
Sincerely,
Jingyi Huang
