Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
My name is Jenna Polla and I am a second-year undergrad student majoring in English here at Queen's. I am writing to gain permission to study abroad during the Spring 2016 semester in Italy, at John Cabot University. This is an American university located in Rome; therefore, all of their courses are in English and will enable me to fulfill some of my major requirements. In addition to my English degree, I am striving towards getting my certificate of competency in Italian and the International Studies Certificate, administered by the IPO. I have taken Italian throughout my first two years here at Queen's and being immersed in an environment where I could practice and expand on my knowledge would be an invaluable experience. Queen's bilateral exchange does not offer any placements at Italian universities in Italy unless you are apart of the TASSEP program, so I have taken initiative in researching how to attend independently. I am in good academic standing and I even made the Dean's List last year I understand how challenging it would be to take courses in a different country, but as a dedicated student my studies will undoubtedly be my priority. Gaining your permission to attend John Cabot University during the Spring 2016 semester would enable me to take courses not typically offered at Queen's, become proficient in Italian, immerse myself in a different culture and become a more well-rounded person.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Jenna Polla
