Petition Letter
To whom it may it concern, I am writing this letter in request to drop a course after the academic deadline. This year I have personally dealt with a lot of issues within my family life that directly affected my mental health. I am a person who already deals with anxiety in their everyday life and have been doing the best I can with managing that, e.g. going to therapy and being in contact with my doctor. Unfortunately, it got to a point where it was a bit too overwhelming for me and in result of this it became extremely difficult to focus on school because a lot of my focus was going elsewhere. I completely understand the importance of deadlines and due dates and I did try my absolute best to do as much as I could with the circumstances I was in. I had emailed my professors explaining my situation and they had advised me to submit an application for academic consideration. I went through the process of that and got in contact with my doctor to provide the proper medical note which had explained my mental health issues. Shortly after I submitted my request it had been approved. During this whole time period I was in constant contact with all of my professors keeping them updated with what was happening and they were extremely understanding and helpful. After talking to them and realizing that it is so close to the end of the semester and I had missed many assignments a lot of them had advised me to submit an academic appeal explaining my situation because it may just be smarter to drop the class and retake it in the future. Again, I completely understand the the severity of this request and how dropping a class after the academic deadline is a privilege. I can honestly say I tried my absolute best to get what I could done during this time but, along with my professors I do think it would not only alleviate so much stress to be able to drop a class but make it a lot easier to focus on getting in the rest of my assignments before this semester is over with a lighter load. Thank you so much for taking the time to consider this request.
