Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean,
I am writing this appeal letter requesting to drop PHIL 203 Winter2022. I am submitting this appeal due to the fact that I missed the drop deadline and I am currently failing this course. Due to this fact I am in dire need to drop it in order to have a passable GPA this year. Despite my shortcomings in this class I am doing my best to secure better grades in my remaining three course and I will be speaking to an academic advisor about my options to better succeed in school.
The extenuating circumstances that have been affecting my performance are related to my poor mental health as well as family problems. The last couple of months I have serious deterioration in my mental health with worsening depression and severe anxiety couple with frequent panic attacks. Most days I can barely get out of bed and most of my time awake is usually spent trying to deal with my worsening anxiety. In addition to my mental health I am also currently struggling to deal with my parents separation and the sale of my childhood home. Furthermore, I had to find out through a facebook post that my father is likely going to be permanently moving to Texas sometime in the near future.
I have recently spoken to a mental health professional about seeking long term therapeutic help and I have just recently received a referral to a therapist who I will begin seeing soon in order to help with my mental health problems and my ability to cope with my family struggles. I will also have an appointment with a academic advisor set up for next week and I will continue to do well in my remaining courses for the semester.
