Petition Letter
To whom it may concern,
I am appealing to drop classes after the academic deadline in order to ensure the potential for success in my remaining classes. This semester I had to have ACL and double meniscus reconstruction surgery, and it left me unable to keep up with schoolwork, for which I already have requested and been granted academic consideration. I also travel to attend Queen??s from outside of Canada, and had to meet with doctors and have surgery in the United States, which further impeded my ability to keep up-to-date academically. The surgery and the subsequent healing and drug regimen, repeated necessary international travel for these appointments, and my inability to come back to Kingston due to the delays of the surgery and process left me unable to attend class as well as unable to effectively keep up with online material. As part of the steps suggested to me by the advisory faculty after this was granted, I spoke with an academic advisor who recommended that I make this appeal in order to properly focus on the classes I intended to remain in for this semester. We discussed what must be done to make-up these credits, and what courses I plan to remain in, as well as which I intended to take during the summer semesters to stay on track for my intended major. Furthermore, I was given advice on how to most efficiently make-up the work in these classes, and have been recovering ahead of schedule through dedicated physical therapy, leaving me able to start getting back on track with a manageable workload, something that the granting of this appeal will allow me to do. Discussion through both appointment and email with the advisory office has made it clear that this is the best option for me to take in order to protect the work I??ve done in the first semester to prevent this setback from creating a bigger issue down the line. I did not take this set-back lightly, and have been doing my best to utilize the Queen??s resources available to create a solid and realistic academic plan to work through this particular time. Granting this appeal will allow me to put my best foot forward in my remaining classes, and the plan I have developed with the help of the student advisory office will allow me to stay on track in my intended major.
