Petition Letter
Hello,
For the past few months I have struggled with my mental health and extenuating circumstances at home financially related, ever since Queen's suddenly sent the student body home for online school and needing to fly back and forth as an out of province student, that it has been extremely difficult to complete course work for ENGL 369. My anxiety and other mental health disorders I am diagnosed with has spiked, and therefore has been very difficult. In winter the professor re weighted my courses work to only 3 assignments, worth 30% each, but since one of them was unsuccessful, it immediately took away my chances for passing and being successful in this course. From all the back and forth communication between Dr.Shlick and I this past year, I believe it is best I drop this course and retake a different 300 level English course next year. It is best for my health and well-being, and I have been getting ongoing counselling from there on. With only 3 assignments to weigh in, it was too difficult to be successful in such a limited number of course work which I figured out overtime. At this point, even if I got a hundred percent on the exam, I would still be getting a failing mark, so there is no purpose in me continuing this course in April and writing the final April exam. I would much rather prefer focusing on my other few courses I have been keeping up with and have been successful in, and writing those exams. This summer I am also taking electives related to it to bump up my GPA and get into better study habits for the next year. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Grace Chen
