Petition Letter
To Whom It May Concern:
I am emailing you regarding completion of my class, History 419 The Italian Renaissance. My Mom got diagnosed with cancer on July 5th 2013; she was later cleared as cancer free in August of 2014. On February 11th, 2015 she was diagnosed again and we were told she was terminal. Because this is my final year, and I was so far into the semester, I decided to stay in school so I would not impact my acceptances to Teacher¿¿s College in the fall.
Unfortunately her cancer is progressing much faster than we had assumed. In order to be able to be home as soon as possible and be my Mom¿¿s caregiver I began my final assignments earlier in the term, the plan was to complete my Italian Renaissance final paper by the end of this week. But instead I came home April 1st and I have been taking care of my Mom. Although I will be able to finish the rest of my finals I do not see how I would have time to complete the final paper worth 25 at the quality my professor deserves.
Because of my current grades in the class, if I were to not hand in the final paper at all I would still pass and receive a C- in the course. The issue is I have worked so hard in this class throughout the year and would be disappointed in myself if that were the final grade I received.
Before contacting you I emailed my Professor James Sommerville, who directed me to Health Services. I was than forwarded to Deborah Stirton, who put me in contact with Haley Everson, who told me to submit an appeal to the Associate Dean (Studies) requesting Aegrotat standing in HIST 419. I look forward to hearing from you.
Best,
Brittany Hinton
