Petition Letter
To whom it may concern,
In 2017, I have completed my undergraduate degree for a couple of years already and was serving full-time in the Canadian military. I was looking to improve my general understanding of math due to academic interest. I subsequently signed up for an online math course with the Arts and Science department.
I received an order to relocate my family after I signed up for the course. At first, I attempted to handle both; but the last-minute house hunting and relocation of my family while working full-time became increasingly overwhelming. The course that I took for interest took a back seat, and it was well past the dropping deadline when I came to realize that my personal situation has consumed too much of my time and energy to complete this course of interest. I eventually chose not to attend the final exam since it was scheduled very close to my mandated moving date.
After the semester, the academic advisor at the time advised me that I can appeal to drop the course. I was advised that I can appeal ??at any point BEFORE you complete another 3.0 unit?. Given the advice, I have held off from appealing until I decide to take another course. However, since then I haven??t taken other courses at Queen??s.
During the last five years I have completed my master??s degree, published research in international conference, and fortunately admitted to doctorate studies back at Queen??s for the coming fall. Once I activated my student account, I realized that this course is on the top of my transcript. My situation is vastly different now and I wish to have a clean slate which reflects on my academic ability.
I am hoping to change my grade to DR due to extenuating circumstances described above. I have submitted a letter from my wife who can speak to our family situation. My posting message and home purchase letter from my lawyer can confirm the period of events. I am also appealing to waive the one-term deadline due to the advice I was given by the school at that time. I have attached the email I received from my advisor.
