Petition Letter
Dear Dean Atkinson,
I am appealing to drop KNPE 153 and HLTH 101 (Fall, 2021) past the academic deadline.
I had a very difficult time in the Fall semester and my grades suffered as a result. I do not want to make excuses for my poor academic performances, but I would like to explain my circumstances. I thought I could handle the workload, I still think I could have, but unfortunately my mom became ill with cancer. While she was sick, I had to drive home almost every weekend and some weeknights to help with work around the house, her appointments and care for my sister. The three hour-long drives each way and caretaking cut into my study time. Even when I was at school, I was very distracted with my situation at home and was unable to focus on my schoolwork. Also, I contracted Covid-19 in the beginning of December which made me very sick. I had prolonged Covid-19 symptoms including consistent coughing, extreme fatigue, nausea, and was unable to focus. It took me three months to fully recover. I understand now that I should have communicated my struggles with the professors and dropped these classes sooner. I love my program and I'm a good student who had one very bad semester. I thought I could handle all these burdens, and I tried my best, but I was wrong.
Dropping these two courses will improve my chances to transfer to a school closer to my home. I will focus more on my schoolwork and better manage my time. I'm taking HLTH 101 along with two other courses in the summer term to improve my grades.
I would really appreciate if you would consider this request with a sense of urgency due to the other schools application deadlines. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Adrian Husic
