Petition Letter
I am writing to appeal to waive the 21-day deadline since I have missed the original deadline of the RTW1 due to more than one extenuating circumstance that has prevented me from taking action within the time the restriction was made and the time I initiated the appeal.
During mid-Fall in 2021, I realized the current courses I had been taking did not lead up to the right program for me. At that time, I spoke with an advisor over the phone. They advised me to stay in my courses and finish the year to take my preferred program in 2nd year.
I have had mental health issues in 2019 for which I had to seek medical attention. The symptoms of which had not occurred until mid-Winter term. Due to higher complexity of the course work, as well as the absence of my parents in the household which had caused a significant lack of emotional support from parents that occasionally triggered the mental health issues to emerge for which I was not able to put consistent effort to the course work, I could not meet the school??s benchmark.
In late-April, I missed the RTW1 notice because the situation obstructed me from taking further action, such as looking further into it or anticipating any consequences.
In late-June, I sent an email to Appeals regarding starting over in my desired program as I was new to the concept of the RTW1. The response directed me to appeal to waive the 21-day deadline in order to appeal the RTW1, as well as to speak with an advisor over the phone or through drop in. Due to the Canada day long weekend, I was not able to speak with an advisor until the exact deadline in early July.
The advisor told me that the deadline was not rigid, however, they said I should submit the appeal as soon as possible. They also mentioned helpful links regarding the appeal.
During late June, my mother who had in the past been living and working overseas had recently moved in with us permanently. Also, in early July, my sister had flown in from travelling abroad. For these reasons, I could not take any earlier action.
Following the time of my sister??s arrival, I had seen and read through the links the advisor had suggested. To better apprehend information touching on the type of appeal and what to write for it, the process had taken longer than I anticipated on top of all of the extenuating circumstances prior to actually writing the appeal.
Due to re-established parental support, I believe I??ll be able to recover the drawbacks and move forward. I would take this appeal as an opportunity to start over in my desired program.
