Petition Letter
Dear Dr Stephenson,
I am writing to appeal the 21-day deadline for appeals. The reason for my late appeal is due to a combination of factors. However, the most significant reason, is concerning my home environment. During the summer I am staying with a parent due to financial reasons. My older brother who I believe suffers from mental issues has recently moved back into the house temporarily (May to July 22). The verbal abuse and frequent intense anger from my sibling perpetuated an environment of fear where everyone had to walk around on eggshells in order to keep the peace. The size of the house also necessitated that my brother and I shared a room together, which made avoidance difficult. The stress caused by this environment exacerbated my ADHD and also gave me anxiety attacks, on one occasion (June 15) I spent the day at the ER after experiencing heart palpitations. I had intended to submit my appeal by the June 14th deadline, however due to the stress caused by this environment it was challenging enough to keep up with the course that I am retaking let alone finalizing my appeal. These circumstances should not affect my future studies since I live away from home during the school year.

Regarding documentation, I have records of my hospital visit. I could ask one of my other siblings or my mother to write confirming the effect of my brother on the household. However, since he has moved out recently (July 22), I would prefer not to ask them to relive that experience since it was stressful for all of us.
