Petition Letter
To whom it may concern,
I am requesting an appeal of the course DEVS 220 due to extenuating circumstance.
In the Fall of 2021, by close friend passed away suddenly due to mental illness. It was a very difficult time for me as I was heavily involved in the funeral arrangement, burial, and memorial services. My friend (Sara Mester) was not close with her family which meant that a lot of responsibility fell onto her close friends.
I was extremely devastated and shocked by her death. It was hard to understand and very difficult to process. She died on November 15 2021, however I was emotionally, mentally and physically affected for many weeks after the tragic event.
After such a violent tragedy, I found it incredibly challenging to emerge myself into more devastating, traumatic and overwhelming content throughout my classes. I am an Indigenous student with a family history that is strongly connected to the violent content talked about in many of my classes. I was unable to cope surrounded by all the negative and traumatic topics both in my personal and academic life.
I tried my best to complete as much work as I could however I was unable to hand in all of the course work, resulting in a F grade in DEVS 220. I understand that DEVS 220 is a core corse for my INDG major. I am willing to take another course to make up the credit if the appeal is not approved.
Thank you for your time and consideration
Tess
