Petition Letter
To the Associate Deans,
I am appealing to have waved the 21-day deadline to submit an appeal for the 2021-2022 academic year. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to present my circumstances.
Once the academic year had ended, I patiently awaited my grades and knew a little bit of what to expect as my finals had not gone as planned. Once I saw the outcome of my courses, I contacted an academic advisor right away to figure out my options as I had now realized that these courses and possibly my program were not working for me. A couple of days later, I received a letter stating that I could not return to studies in the fall. I knew my grades were not great, but this letter had completely caught me off guard. After putting so much work into myself over the past year through having to appeal my first year of remote online university at Queens due to extenuating circumstances, I did not know where to go from this point forward. I hid this from my parents for much too long and many of my friends and family still are not aware. I felt and still feel alone, embarrassed, humiliated, and most of all ashamed of having to proceed with this appeal process.
I was firstly disappointed in myself for having to appeal a second time, but also for not being responsible enough for my actions and telling no one. I was ignorant of the 21-day deadline as I did not want it to come so soon and would then need to let my parents know. This caused me great stress and I coped by obtaining yet another full-time job on top of the one I have already been committed to since April. I have been working fifteen-hour days to allow myself relief from the anxiety I had been feeling waiting to break the news to my parents who were very disappointed in the end. I then met with another advisor who recommended I write an appeal letter for the three courses I had not gotten credit for as well as the faculty??s decision to appeal for the 2022-2023 academic year. I then received an email after submitting my letter of appeal a week later stating that I was on the right track but now had to write a letter appealing the 21-day deadline before being able to submit this one, which you are now reading many weeks later.
I am now humbly writing to please have voided the 21-day deadline and excuse my immaturity towards this situation I have put myself in. I have been through so many uphill battles these last 2 years attending Queens and for me to give up at this point will not be an option for me. As much as I was and still am battling my mental instabilities and have written this letter much past the deadline due to these circumstances, I would at this time ask for a second chance at completing my undergraduate degree at Queens University. My goal to persevere and grow through these difficult times will be dependent on the university's decision. I am determined to proceed with my studies and find my way through this hardship whatever the outcome.
Should you require any additional information, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
