Petition Letter
This request was made to reconsider my grade for my Practicum in the fall/winter terms of 2021-2022. I am looking to help provide a highlight of how I have failed to meet the requirement. As well as how I hope to help reaffirm my commitment to this school and correct my lack of satisfaction with my school grades Within the past year I have struggled to adapt towards my academic goals, failing to see myself in the student body and have control in my living situation. Which in all were impacted and further developed by my poor mental health.
Primarily, the issue for the past year has been a complication with my mental health that has caused overall anxiety and fear that debilitated and impacted my decisions. I had been wrapped up in my first real semester of University. That is how most of my interactions this year went, My roommates and all the people I had virtually connected to from the BISC had felt like this was the first real year. To say I had struggled when I faced adversity would be an understatement. My interaction with the student body had felt very disconnected. While I struggled to adapt to the social life, new living situation and inconsistency of school, I felt a little lost. My mental health had debilitated my motivation and caused me to fear the role I could play in the community. I have now come to understand the enriched community and plethora of services, and intellectual content at my fingertips. As well as how important this opportunity for experience was for my future. As with most things in life I came out on the other side stronger, with a group of friends that I find to be some of the most aspirational, enlightened and intellectual students. With the support of these friends, I have been able to ascertain the direction that has remotivated me. Within the winter term, I sought help from my family doctor which, was later followed up with a meeting with my psychiatrist Dr. Ken Euler. He confirmed my suspicions that I had about my mental health and we proceeded with a journey in correcting my mental health. My adjustment to my medication had left me in a dream-like state, and kind of fragile. With my long line of volunteer work, I was personally shocked by my community service work. PRAC was a terrifying thing to deal with in year one, my transition to online school was difficult but I managed to come out with a good GPA. Within my first year of PRAC, I had ended up being piled into the final group that had no PRAC and did an Online Module. The past year I had felt very anxious in attempting to initiate my PRAC regarding my mental health, comfortability with COVID and my unbalanced and inconsistent schedule. Felt that I had to connect more with the idea of how I was at school rather than who I was. I hope to think of who I am, as an aspiring Queens student with the hopes to change the education system and inspire students to seek knowledge as I have in the past and hope to for the future.
While I cannot make up the time I have lost throughout the year due to fear, anxiety and my mental health. I can only hope to build and work harder to fulfill and elate my role as a Queen's student in the community. With the understanding of my mental health, I hope to work with my family doctor and psychiatrist to further reclaim my mental health. I will also seek the help of the Queen's student wellness services as a consistent check-in. Dr.Ken Euler and I have progressed he and I, have seen an improvement and steady flow. As we move forward, I would love to take on the hours of PRAC that I have lost in my upcoming years. With the guidance of the PRAC office, I would love to coordinate a plan for me to take on these hours. I will further aspire to be the Queen's student that was accepted to the BISC, and set goals to achieve academic standards higher than what I have lowered them to in the past year. To ensure this with my future approach to school I will take fewer classes to help gain control and develop a stronger GPA at a steady pace, rather than overload and burnout. I hope to embrace parts of the university I was not aware of earlier in my career, such as the Queens Yellow House, and Queer4peers AMS. and interact deeply with the school community that would encourage my best traits and habits.
