Petition Letter
Dear Associate Dean (academic),
My name is Erin Malus. I am in my fourth year of Kinesiology. The reason for this appeal is to get permission to do an independent study aboard. I am looking to get the international school experience for one semester. I would ideally like to study at the University of Sydney in the winter term of 2023. University of Sydney offers some unique courses that I would not be able to take at Queen??s. I had applied to go on exchange through the international programs office in second year but I did not get in. I looked into doing an independent study abroad to Australia last year, but most Australian schools were still doing online school.
I will have completed all necessary courses in my degree plan by the end of this semester, so I do not have to worry about core courses or meeting my degree requirements. Although it is not very common to do a study abroad in fourth year, studying abroad is something that I would really like to incorporate into my university experience and due to COVID this was not possible in my second and third year. Moreover, I am aware that, unlike in exchange, doing an independent study aboard I am required to pay the international school??s tuition. I had a meeting with the undergraduate chair of Kinesiology, Anna, and I have her permission.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Erin Malus (20186806)
