Petition Letter
Hi, my name is Ron Vaknin (20068990) and I am filing this appeal to request Aegrotat Standings (AG) in Econ 332 and Pols 212 as well as an extension of my incomplete grade (IN) for Econ 239. I took these courses in the winter semester of 2022, and at the time due to a series of health issues was not able to complete all the coursework by the deadline. I am severely immune compromised from my Multiple Sclerosis (MS) treatment and I started the semester by catching Covid-19 which required me to go to the hospital for treatment. While trying to catch up on my schoolwork, I had an MS flare-up that severely limited my hand function and ability to complete my schoolwork. These severe symptoms lasted multiple months and thankfully I was able to defer some assignments and exams. As I began to recover, I planned on completing all my missing assignments and exams along with my summer course. I was able to chip away at a fair bit and hoped that through August and September, I would be able to complete the missing work. However, in August I had a surgical procedure on my leg, where they glued the greater saphenous vein shut. This took a few weeks to recover from and limited my ability to sit and work as my leg was swollen and bruised. In August I also had my intravenous MS treatment which had some very bad side effects and took me out of commission for another few weeks. Lastly, in the scheduling of deadlines, there was a lot of miscommunication and confusion. Almost everyone I spoke to gave me different dates and different requirements for my appeals. For example, it is still not clear to me if I need to apply for an extension of an IN grade for the courses that I wish to receive an AG standing in. The assignments that were necessary to meet the AG requirement of completing 60% of the course material were submitted for POLS 212 and Econ 332 in the last 2 days. For Econ 239, I would have liked to apply for AG standing, but at the moment have not finished the 60% requirement. I have spoken to my professor and he supports giving me more time to complete this course. I have attached my doctor's letter of support to this appeal, and if needed can get proof of appointments for the treatments and surgical procedure. In terms of timeline, these events should be chronologized with my QSAS advisor as I provided her with all events in real-time. These courses are the last 3 that I need to graduate. I no longer live in Kingston and I am hoping these appeals are granted so I do not need to upend my life and move back to Kingston for a few credits. Thank you so much for your consideration, please get back to me at your earliest convenience
