Petition Letter
I appreciate the time you are taking to consider my appeal to add a course late. I am appealing to be added late to GNDS 125. At the time of this appeal, the deadline to add a course has passed by four days. I am a new student to Queens University having begun in July for the summer term. When I was applying for OSAP in the summer term, I was told that taking two courses in the summer term qualified me for full-time status. In preparation for the fall term, I changed positions within my job to allow me more time to focus on my studies by working and earning less. I had believed, from the information I was given by the Student Awards department in the summer, that two courses would qualify me as a full-time student for Fall. I applied for full-time OSAP in August and was given a funding estimate that I am relying on for the 2022-2023 academic year.
I was continuously checking the OSAP portal to see when I would receive my funding, and it kept getting pushed a week further at a time. Out of concern this morning, September 23rd, I emailed Awards Officer Jen Thibodeau to ask if the delay was due to me. I was informed by Ms. Thibodeau that she was going to have to reject my Fall full-time application as I would need to be in three courses to qualify as full time. This was extremely distressing for several reasons, but mainly due to the fact that the deadline to add a course had passed four days earlier.
I cannot change my work circumstances until the new year and without the OSAP funding that had been confirmed for full-time studies, I will have to drop out of my classes and get a second job for the remainder of the year. I would sincerely appreciate being put into the GNDS 125 course if there is room (otherwise ARTH 250 works as well) so that I may maintain my full-time funding and stay enrolled in my studies. I am submitting this appeal as soon as I was given the information that my funding was affected and have not delayed in submitting it.
I have emailed the professor for the GNDS 125 program to request their permission to be added but have not heard back yet.
