Petition Letter
I am writing to respectfully request a transfer from Anatomy 215 to Anatomy 100.
I received a diagnosis of moderate ADHD in 2021 after struggling in school for many years. As such, I have difficulty with executive functioning, including maintaining focus and use of working memory. Through trial and error, I have found which learning styles work for me and my unique needs. I have difficulty maintaining focus in lectures, particularly where new material is being delivered for memorization and future application at a rapid pace. This is impacting my ability to succeed in Anatomy 215. Given that Anatomy 100 is self-directed and presented in module format with several assignments, I feel I will have a greater opportunity to learn, incorporate the material and succeed. I will be able to take my time going through the modules without missing information, ensure my comprehension and solidify the course material in my knowledge base. ANAT100's assignment-based assessments will enable me to direct my focus and apply the knowledge which facilitates my ability to learn and memorize information for tests and bell ringers.
I have been feeling very anxious with respect to this course, and I feel my mental health is suffering. I find myself spending a disproportionate amount of time studying for Anatomy 215 at the expense of all of my other courses, which only serves to cause further anxiety. I feel I would be able to control this and prevent spiralling should I take Anatomy 100, as the inclusion of written modules and assignments play to my learning style.
Due to my ADHD, I have an accommodation for extra time on assessments as it takes me much longer to process information. This delay also applies to learning material, especially in anatomy lectures, as they focus on memorization and less on understanding concepts than my other classes.
I am very interested in Anatomy and find the structures and functions of the human body fascinating. I truly wish to continue with my study of Anatomy and would like to enroll in Anatomy 100 and drop Anatomy 215
