Petition Letter
I am asking to drop my POLS 262 class because I have become overwhelmed by the semester and need to drop one course in order to salvage the rest of my year. During fall exams in the 2014-2015 year I was unable to write my exams due to the fact I was diagnosed with mono. This is on top of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) for which I am registered with the Disability Services Office (DSO). I immediately went home and spent the winter break attempting to recover enough to return to school for the winter semester. When I returned, a week after the semester started, I was faced with completing four exams POLS 250, POLS 211, POLS 280 and POLS 243 while still maintaining a course load of POLS 244, GNDS 215, POLS 250, and POLS 262. I had to drop POLS 244 during the add/drop timeframe as I was unable to keep up due to my illness. I believed dropped down to three classes would solve my problem of balancing coursework readings, essays while at the same time preparing and writing last semesters exams while still incredibly sick. I scrapped through that but it took me over a month and I was unable to recover from it while balancing mono while regulating my CFS. I am also registered at the DSO for a learning disability that has been working at the Adaptive Technology Centre in order to correctly process my readings. I found all of this incredibly difficult to cope and soon spiralled into a depressive state for which I have seen both Ms. Lee Fisher-Goodchild at the DSO as well as from Counselling Services. My housemates have asked me to move out due the difficult phase I entered and I received a room in Emergency Housing on West Campus for ten days while I finished necessary assignments for other classes. I am asking to drop POLS 262 because I was unable to hold onto all of my classes this semester.
