Petition Letter
Dear Dr. Jenn Stephenson,
I am appealing to submit a late drop request for PHYS 316, PHYS 432, PHYS 344, and PHYS 590 (Fall, 2022). Due to acute health issues this past term, I was unable to attend classes, complete assignments and assessments, and write examinations in my courses. I am registered with QSAS for different issues, and I communicated with my professors for re-weightings, however, my professors and I both agree that I have missed too much coursework and they would support a late drop. I am unsure of whether I need to include the full-year course PHYS 590 as a late drop in this appeal. Upon reflecting with an academic advisor, my accessibility advisor, and my counsellor at Student Wellness Services (SWS), I have decided to submit a late drop for these courses. I have attached a letter from my counsellor, Solita Hoogendam, BSW, MSW, RSW, as supporting documentation - I am currently on a care plan with Student Wellness Services. Unfortunately, it was difficult to receive a timely care plan given the very high number of students seeking appointments during the semester. Approval of this late drop will allow me to take these courses when I am able - in addition, this semester I have decided to lessen my in-person courseload to more online/remote courses. I did not anticipate being this mentally and physically affected unexpectedly this semester, and I was unable to anticipate the extent of my condition before the Fall Term drop deadline. The present state of my circumstances is variable, which is why I have decided to change my winter term courses. I will then be retaking the proposed dropped courses in the following Fall Term.
Please let me know if you require any additional information from me.
Sincerely,
Yasi Shahidian
