Petition Letter
Hello,
I am writing to request an extension of the IN grade for CHEM 281 and to further defer the final exam into the summer period. The original exam was scheduled to be written on December 15; however, I came down with the flu earlier in the month which prevented me from writing the exam at that time, in addition to final assessments for other classes. This is evidenced by the academic considerations I had applied for and received in that time, leading to the CHEM 281 exam being deferred to January, 2023.
Just before returning to school for the winter semester, I had learned of the passing of a close family member, for which the funeral and memorial services require me to be away from Kingston during the timeframe of the deferred exam period, coupled with a significant bereavement period that I fear will not accurately represent my academic ability and will hinder my performance if I attempt to complete a final examination in the coming days/week. This was detailed by the academic consideration with supporting documentation I had applied for and received earlier this week. This event is especially challenging for me and my family as this week also marks the one-year anniversary of another very close, immediate family member who passed, making this time of year quite draining and distracting for me. As such, I am petitioning to further extend the IN grade for CHEM 281 and further defer the final examination to the summer period, as per Professor Carran's suggestion in our personal correspondence this week.
I kindly thank you for taking the time to read and acknowledge my appeal.
Many thanks,
Christopher
